September Acronym

Okay, I’m losing it.  Yesterday I thought, “Now that it’s September, this super hot and dry summer will be behind us.”  Um, no.  September was last month.  Because it’s October, here’s September’s monthly acronym recap.

Stripping down:  Peeling off wall paper backing and testing removal methods.

Excavating:  Digging up the back patio, fountain, and retaining walls.

Prepare to drool: Over Ben’s giant ginger cookie recipe.

Transformations and transitions:  Giving a brass bar cart a chrome face lift and using silverware trays to organizing a few drawers.

Engineered art:  Five dollar engineering prints turned to large bedroom art.

Making progress and plans:  Painting the entertainment center (well, most of it), getting concrete cut to lower the pool house door (and a peek at the back yard plans).

Birthday bash: Dog themed with invitations and hand-made details.

Eco boost:  Picking out, preparing for, and installing new, energy-efficient windows.

Repair and repaint: Fixing a broken picture frame and painting dipped table legs.

Hopefully the cooler weather will push us back inside to work.  I’m hoping to work on the bedrooms.  Based on the survey, I know several of you are looking for more decor driven posts, and so are we (well I definitely am).  Also, we had a few requests to post more often than once each week day.  To test it out, I’ll be back with another quickie project this afternoon.  What do you think about posting more often?  So we can share a little project here and there?

August Acronym

Hello and happy Labor day to those of you in the U.S.  Hope you’re having a great long weekend!

Almost done: This is the story of our lives, nearly finished projects.  In August, we made a lot of progress in the main bathroom.  We’ve added a Sky Tube for natural lighttrimmed out theroom, and got everything painted.  Just have to build false drawer fronts and we can call the bathroom a wrap.

Uprooted:  A few walls and a floor.  One load bearing wall in the garage which we replaced with a beam, and the wet bar in the pool house is seeing a little demo, too.

Getting into sewing: I busted out my sewing machine to make drop cloth curtain panels for the living room and dyed them for a moody look.  Then I turned plain striped fabric into an X patterned pillow.

Unveiled:  The finished roof, shiny new garage doors, and how I make mood boards in Photoshop.

Small projects:  Adding the tops to our entertainment center base, fixed our broken couch, and V started tearing off the kitchen wallpaper.

Tried new things:  Norwex cleaning cloths (love those!) and a new Mohawk Home rug (also love!).

And now we’re in September.  Where does the time go?

What did you cross off your list in August?  What are your plans for September?   Are you excited for hot cider and apple crisp?  I know I am!

July Acronym

I know I say this every month, but where has the time gone?  I can’t believe it’s already August.  We’ve got something fun to look forward to and I can’t wait to spill the beans.  Other than that, we’ve got outdoor projects to finish, more to start (and hopefully finish) before the weather cools down.  Although, I can’t lie.  We’re looking forward to fall temperatures.  Steady temps in the upper 90′s and lower 100′s without rain is more than I can handle for this long.  I think my Scandinavian roots are rebelling right now.  But that in no way means I’m ready for winter, so hold off, Mother Nature (please)!

Anyway, enough of my blabbing.  Here’s what we accomplished this July.

Join the festivities:  Free firework prints and a quick Americana table setting.

Unleashed:  A custom pillow tutorial which spurred a new item in the shop, this pretty new address stamp, my new towel buying strategy, quick pillow change for the deck mixing blue and orange, and a new (to me) fabric shop in Minnesota.

Loaded up:  Turning a cheap cardboard box into a pretty storage bin, hanging quirky art in the main bathroom, filling my sister’s stair wall with pictures.

Yet another:  Trip to Ikea, sharing their latest and greatest, Home Goods trip with Jen Jones, and a debate over the placement of something (this time a Sky Tube).

Looking back, we didn’t cross big-ticket items off our to do list.  Why did it feel so busy?  Oh, that’s right.  We’ve been busy hosting gaggles of guests, which is always a treat.  Overall, July has been enjoyable.

How was your July?  Care to share your highlight?  Perhaps you went on a fun vacation?  Finished a project?  Did nothing but relax and read?

June Acronym

Jazz it up:  Painting over the red wall, adding fun yellow to the back of the entertainment center, making and hanging new map art

Unzip and unearth:  Discover the possibilities of a hand stitched zipper bag and unearthing roof problems.

Never ending:  Bathroom projects; mood board planning, industrial pendants, and painting the vanity bold blue.

Enjoy the upgrades:  A new vacuum, more sun filled spaces thanks to cutting down a tree, a semi clean basement, and the beginnings of an entertainment center.

I fully intended to watch fireworks from our living room.  As it got darker, I became more excited.  Afterall, this is the first 4th in our mountain house.  At 10:30, I saw fireworks from the neighboring town.  10:30 rolled past and still no fireworks for us.  At 11:00, I laid in bed because a watched firework never starts.  And that’s where I made my mistake.  I laid in bed, waiting to hear the fireworks.  Then, I’d get up, watch, and maybe take a few pictures.  Well, I fell asleep before I heard the fireworks start and must have slept through.  Completely lame.  How was your 4th of July?  Did you stay up to watch fireworks?  Have friends and family over?

Move outs, announcements, and pains:  We officially said good-bye to our first love house.  Share your new address with printable paint chip moving announcements.  While the mountain house is great, we’re feeling moving pains, especially in the closet department.

Adding design and function:  Design elements including a tile shower surround, tile on the floor, new lights, painted black out curtains, and considering decorative trim for the main bathroom.  Functional items include a sleek stainless dishwasher, a whole house fan, wireless fence to keep Jack safe, an open vanity topped by a DIY cut quartz counter top.

Yanking, yelling, yodeling:  Demolishing the old hot tub, chanting for a video tour, yodeling at the top of our mountainous yard.

June has already brought about a few blog changes, too.  Did you notice the new look?

I designed a new header, new background, and we’re officially official.  Finally we ditched the .wordpress.com suffix.

You know I can’t resist a pun, right?  Heck, the name of the blog is a pun on our last name.  Why not do it again?  Bowe is pronounced bow (silent e) as in bow and arrow.  Take a closer look at the background…

Little arrows.  Our Facebook page is different, too.
