Gimme a Giveaway Winner & Ice, Ice Bucket

Hello and Happy Friday, friends!  Can you believe we’ve almost finished April?  Seems crazy, but bring on May, warmer weather, and flower planting.  But for today, let’s share the Through the Doggy Door winner.

Random.org chose Janelle, a fellow Montanan waiting until June 1 to plant.  Congrats, Janelle!

You already know I can’t get enough green lately.  Well, I did it again.  Oops.  I found this chrome, wood, and wood print ice bucket at the thrift store for six bucks.  Perfect for our little bar with just a bit of sprucing up.

That dark wood print had to go.

After a thorough cleaning, I sprayed it with a coat of flat white spray paint to act as a primer.  Then dug out test paints to see what color I wanted.  Five colors later, I loved Anjou Pear, the same color I plan to paint the boys’ bedroom.

Green-yellow, light, and a burst of fun.  Have a great weekend, everyone!

Gimme a Giveaway Winner & Favorite Florals

Happy Easter Friday, everyone!  Are you looking forward to the weekend?  We are!  My family is coming in today to spend a week with us.  And our weather is finally warming up.  Bring on spring!  Which is the inspiration for today’s post.  But first, the winner of the Lamps Plus giveaway is Elizabeth G!  Congrats and have fun picking out pretty lights.

Spring is my favorite season.  The fresh green leaves, warm, sunny skies, and bright flowers.  Though our weather has warmed up a little, we still don’t see signs of spring.  Instead, I brought some in the house with a brightly colored floral fabric I found at Hobby Lobby.

I love it paired up the nearly citron green pillows.  I can’t find it online, so I thought I’d share a few other favorite floral fabrics.

February Giveaway Winners

I hope you’re all having a fabulous Friday!  Yay, it’s Friday.  Erin and Jen N., I think you’ll be happy to know you’re the winners of one Lily & Val chalkboard print and two Our Humble Abode prints.  Congrats, new art is so fun.

Now I need your opinions.  I’m trying to decide which drawer handles I like better.  The first is a super simple brushed stainless handle for $2.97.

I like the straight lines and the simple profile.

The second one is slightly larger brushed nickel for $3.97.

I like the size, but I’m not a fan of the slightly rounded shape.

Ben wants to use the same style we used in our old kitchen.

The problem is, Lowe’s has increased the price by $20 for ten pulls.  But, we can order some off Ebay for $1.50 to $2 each.  So the question is, do we use something we can get right now for twice the price?  Or place an order and patiently wait to get the cheaper handles?  Which also means we can’t install the finished drawer fronts because we’ll have no way of opening them until we have handles.

If you’ll excuse me, I’m headed down to finish refinishing the mini dresser.  Hopefully I’ll have it done to share on Monday.

What’ll It Be? (and a Winner)

First, let’s take care of business.  The winner of the Studio Tullia and Our Humble Abode giveaway is…Kimberly R!  Congratulations!  You’ve got one pillow and two constellation cut outs waiting for you to customize.

Though the family room isn’t finished, I’m still excited to work on decorating.  This four-foot wide nook by the fireplace is kind of tough.  Right now we’ve got wood storage, an open space (that we’ll eventually fill with a tv), and a thick shelf for books and art.

Originally, I wanted two shelves at the top for a more built-in look, but chickened out when we built it fearing two shelves would look cramped.  To be sure, I turned to Photoshop.  Adding a second shelf and tv does fill in the space.  If we upgrade the tv in the living room, we’ll put that one in here, like this:

But the 42″ tv looks huge here, so maybe we’ll buy a smaller 32 inch-ish one, like this.

Or maybe just a coat of paint is all we’ll need?

One shelf might look less cluttered…

Then again, two shelves could look like a built-in, adding height to the nook.  In the event we add a second shelf, books will primarily fill the shelves.  What do you think; one shelf or two?

Gimme a Giveaway Winner: Norwex & Drawerganization

Raise your hand if you’re happy today is Friday.  We’ve got a birthday party planned for a certain little boys I know.

A whole hand.  I can’t believe it.  We’re both getting so old.  Haha.  Sara GB should be pretty happy, too, because she’s the winner of the Norwex giveaway!

And now for a little drawerganizing.  Because this house needs so much.  When my blog BFF Jen and her adorable family visited in August, she brought me some adorable labels.  Chalkboard labels for my spice jars, in fact.

So I peeled those puppies off the sheets and stuck ‘em to my spice jars.  Then they sat that way while I tracked down a chalk pen.  Well, tried.  After stopping at four different stores, all rumored to have said chalk pens, I gave up.  Instead, I bought dry erase crayons, hoping they’d work.

Luckily, they did.  No smudging or easy wear off, but clean off with water.

And now we know what spice we’re looking for right away.  If only my handwriting were better.  Though I do have the best writing in the house.  Which isn’t a challenge considering I live with men.  Haha.

Another quick drawerganization started at the thrift store.  I spotted a chrome silverware divider for a buck ninety-nine.  When I see cheap organizers, I try to find a use for it.  Then it hit me, organize the friggin’ bathroom!  At home, I plopped our toiletries, vitamins, toothbrushes, and toothpaste in there and it made me smile.  Sure, it’s nothing fancy or super pretty, but we can fin what we’re looking for.  That’s all that matters, right?

We’re organized and ready to party.  What do you have planned for the weekend?
