Stools, and Not the Gross Kind

Well, we ordered three stools for the bar.  What did we get?  The Twist stools from World Market.  We took advantage of a Cyber Monday 20% off everything sale plus a free shipping code from EBates.  This was the first time I’d used EBates, but if I get another 8% back, that puts another 20 bucks in my pocket, making our stools 28% off plus free shipping.  So we spent $80.95  per stool which originally cost $109.99 each.

That’s better than the 25% off or free shipping we considered before Thanksgiving.

Fortunately, the stools are fantastic.  Super sturdy, heavy-duty, good-looking, and adjustable.  Three tuck nicely under the bar top without taking up space in the living room.  A few readers warned us about backless or swivel stools with little kids, but so far they’ve been great.  We haven’t let Everett sit on the stools, but Vincent has been totally fine.  And, the swivel feature amuses them.  Both boys turn the seats like they’re driving.

As you can see, we still have finish work to do on this side, like adding trim to the cabinets, filling nail and screw holes, and painting, but the space is usable and that’s what really matters.

What I like best are the heavy wood tops.  Nothing cheesy or fake here.  The color to the seats coördinates beautifully with the wooden counter top.  Bonus!

Now if Ben and I could agree on a color to paint the cabinets.  I want white to match the entertainment center because they’re technically in the same room.   Ben thinks we should paint the cabinets the same gray as the kitchen lowers because they’re back to back.

What do you think?  Do you have bar stools in your home?  What style do you have?

  1. Stools look really great! You did a great job at shopping for these. I vote the grey paint. I think it would make it look a lot more cohesive. Just imho.

  2. The stools are fantastic, such a perfect match! I vote white, too. I’ve seen a LOT of beautiful kitchens that use different colors for upper and lower cabinets, or different colors for cabinets in the main part of the kitchen and those that are off to one side. I like that look, not too “matchy matchy” if you know what I mean.

  3. I love white cabinets, definitely white!!! White cabinets just make things a little more elegant! Our house is old, but the kitchen looks updated just with white paint, we are always getting compliments. I think it would be a nice contrast with the gray!

    1. Hi JD, Thanks! I think we got a pretty good deal on the stools. Obviously we could have gotten something cheaper, but we didn’t like the look of anything else.

Hey Stephanie! Isn’t the industrial look great?!? And I think it looks even better because of the wood counters.

Hi Brigitte, Thanks for your vote! 🙂 I love the mixed feel of cabinetry. It adds more interest than everything being the same. That’s why I’m leaning toward the white for the bar side.

Hey Gabbi, I wish Montana Craigslist weren’t so lame. I would have loved to go that route, but didn’t find anything good. As a rule of thumb, each seat should have two feet of space, so if you’ve got six feet, I’d get another. 🙂

Hi Ash! IDK on the gray. We’ll have to see. But of course you’d vote gray. Haha.

Hey Ashley! Thanks for your vote and compliments!

Hi Jackie! I love white cabinets, too. So clean and classic. So glad you love your white cabinets, too. 🙂

And, here are the votes so far:

      Gray: 2
      White: 4

  4. Unless the 20% off code was listed on Ebates, Ebates may not give you cash back from your purchase. They have it listed in their policies that “outside” coupons may interfere with earning cash back. From their terms & conditions: “If you visit other sites before completing your purchase or use coupons not provided by Ebates, your purchase might be associated with a service other than Ebates and you might not earn cash back on your purchase.” I hope you do get your cash back though! That would make a great deal on the stools!

    1. Hey Nicole! Thanks! I’m with you on the white too, but we’ll have to wait to see. 🙂

      Thanks for your vote, Gabbi!

Hi Ellie, Thanks so much! Another gray vote, too. 🙂

Hi Heather! Aren’t the stools fab?!? So much character. Love!

Hey Michelle, Not a bad deal, huh?

Hi Debbie! Actually, the WM discount wasn’t a code, it was just 20% off everything, taken off automatically so it didn’t compete with the Ebates offer. Ebates had a free shipping code that I used, too. Love Ebates now!

Hey Kristen, Thanks. We love them too! 🙂

  5. I love these stools! They make me think of a Victorian print shop or something. We have bars tools and I don’t love them. They’re basically just bar height chairs-boring. I’m painting our bar area though and I’m bringing in the color from the adjacent sitting room. If you’ll see it from the living room, it’ll be fun to tie it in, but it’ll look great either way!

Now it's your turn! Share your thoughts and opinions, stories and links. We love hearing from you!
