Table Talk & Surprise Giveaway

You know when you see something, something you don’t need, at a thrift store, but buy it anyway?  You like it, but don’t know where you’ll put it or what you’ll do with it.  I’ve done that a few times, including this not so little sleek wooden table.

For ten bucks, I had to get it, right?

It seemed kind of tall to be a coffee table, but I bought it because I hoped it would work.  But my hunch was right, it was taller than most coffee tables.

About four inches tall.  And looked awkward.

Of course I have a few options.  One, I can cut the legs down a few inches to lower it for use as a coffee table.

Not ideal, but it could work.  But I can’t undo that if I don’t like it.  So, I can also use it as a low end table.

What would you do with this too tall to be a coffee table but too short to be something else guy?  Do I cut the legs down?  Because I’m sharing recent ten-dollar purchases, check out this dipped basket I found at TJ Maxx.

Perfect place to drop dirty towels.  I bought a slightly larger one for Handy Sammy’s room, too.  Can’t pass up a ten-dollar basket.  Can you?  how about a surprise giveaway to kick off the weekend?  Oh, sure, here it is!

  1. Love that table – my grandmother had a similar one that was rectangular that she used for an end table. Would it work between two chairs?

  2. On second thought I prob wouldn’t cut the legs and use it as an end table.

Also I liked your FB page 🙂

    1. Hi Thecreationista!

The height is perfect for that spot, but the top is a foot or so wider than the table I have there now. Sadly, the room perimeter is all walkway, so I can’t go much wider without interrupting the traffic flow. 😦

      Thanks!
      Amanda

  3. I think I’d cut the legs down if it were me. It seems like it’s just a weird height for a side table. I also like you on facebook.

  4. Once again it’s you and me with the twinsie action! I’m having a giveaway too! Ends on the same day as yours. Make sure you enter. Oh and ummm I totally would have purchased the table. I can’t tell you how many “I just had to have them” pieces I have hanging out in my garage;)

  5. I’d say cut the table down, but it looks like it’s actually a little too small for the space. Maybe that’s just because of the angle of the picture? I’m assuming you’re probably trying to leave enough walking room around the table, so maybe something oval (but bigger)? I don’t know….I like the table though, so I can see your dilemma!

    1. Hi Nicole!

I agree that it’s just a little too small as a coffee table. Ideally I’d have something between 32 and 36 inches for the top. This is only 28…

      Thanks!
      Amanda

  6. I could definitely use something like this! Maybe it would help the hubby see that we really need to be a tv “station” with the TV on the wall and all of the boxes and what-not out of the way! Thanks for the chance to win!

  7. How about an entryway table? With a plant or some pics on it. Also, I have a great need for the wall mount! 🙂

    1. Hi Jennifer G!

I wish we had the space in our entry to have a table this size. It’s awkward because the height and the top is pretty large (around 28 inches). Not sure!

      Thanks!
      Amanda

  8. Oh man! We JUST bought a wall mount the other day for our bedroom. Were contimplating one for the guest room and this may just seal the deal.

  9. I say cut the legs off. If you hate it, it was only $10. And you could always Craigslist it if you don’t like it after. Probably for the same amount.

  10. We have too many TV’s that are placed on old TV stands. We need to mount and find a nice way to hide all of the wires!

  11. Thanks for the giveaway! We’ve been looking for a TV wall mount for a while now and this giveaway is just in time for my husband’s first Father’s day. Thanks for the chance to win!

  12. Enter me for that giveaway! Perfect for our new TV.

Is that table the right height to use as a bedside table? Wouldn’t it look great with dipped legs?

    1. Hi Stephanie B!

It won’t work for the beds upstairs right now. Maybe once we get Ev in a big boy bed we’ll have space for it in his room?! Dipped legs would be super fun, too!

      Thanks!
      Amanda

  13. Love the table. Do not cut the legs. I think you would regret it later. You will find the perfect chair or bed to place it eventually.

  14. We’ve been toying with the idea of putting a TV in our room and this is exactly what we would need to do that!

  15. What a great giveaway…I’d love this for the family room television.
As for the adorable table…cut the legs!! It will look great 🙂

  16. I’d use it as an end table or another room. You could cut the legs but It looks a little small as a coffee table. Just my two cents.

  17. My husband would love this. We just moved into our first house today and he’s obsessed with getting his media space just so.

  18. I don’t think I’d cut it, it seems a bit small for a coffee table. Since it’s too short for a side table I’d sell it and keep looking.

    1. Hey Zhaleh!

I don’t want to cut it, but I hope I can find a spot for it eventually. For 10 bucks, I think I can stand to hold on to it for a little while. 😉

      Thanks!
      Amanda

  19. I think if you cut the legs down, you would ruin the style of the table. Hang on to it and I bet you’ll eventually find the perfect place for it! And please enter me in your giveaway. Thanks.

  20. Great wall mount! Thanks for the giveaway! I definitely see your table as an end table. Lots of possibilities.

  21. The table looks like it might be a good height for a kids play table if you could find or make some small chairs

  22. Love thrift store finds. I found a beautiful mid-century dresser on Friday, but sadly we are between houses waiting on short sale and I have no where to put it!! 😦

    1. Hi Vicki M!

Oh, it’s always tough to walk away from the perfect find because you don’t have space. Hopefully you’ll find something even better when you close on your new house!

      Thanks!
      Amanda

  23. I think it looks too small to be a coffee table. I would use it as a side table as is, don’t cut the legs. We have a table that’s just a little too high for the living room as a bedside table, and it works great. I already like and follow you on FB. We’re currently building built ins for our living room and need a tv mount for the area. We would love to win!!

    1. Hi Nikki!

Yep, the top is at least 4 inches smaller than I’d like. I’m just not sure I have a permament home for it right now, but it’s working as an end table until then.

      Thanks!
      Amanda

  24. Could seriously use this. always find myself coming back toyour website, its a like a little DIY encyclopedia 🙂

  25. I would leave the table as is and use as an end table. You’ll find the perfect coffee table eventually!

Also — what a great giveaway! How exciting. I’ve been in the market for a TV mount, but haven’t found it in my to pull the trigger.

  26. You really do score some awesome deals at your thrift stores. I love the table. Thanks for the giveaway.

  27. I am definitely guilty of buying cute things at thrift stores that I’m not sure what to do with! This table seems like a good find though. 🙂 Do you have a sun room or something like that? It looks like a lovely table to put some plants on.

Also, I liked you on FB!
