November Acronym

It’s December, so that means it’s acronym time.  Behold, November!

New York: a custom cut out for a special friend.  And needing to complain (and ask for advice) about bar stools.

Ornaments are being made, too.

Very huge kitchen cabinets: a giant refrigerator cabinet

and tall uppers.

Even added a plan:   A floor plan, that is.

And, we added a floor plan of the basement shortly after.

Made a few decisions:    We chose a KitchenAid dishwasher and light fixtures.

Brought in the appliances:  Our new backless range kicks serious arse.

Etsy overload:  More of our favorite Etsy finds.  Can’t get enough, can we?

Remodelaholic:   We joined Cassity and a band of talented bloggers to create a living room mood board.

In a nutshell, that’s how we spent our November.  Oh, and we gorged ourselves on food.  What about you?  Favorite highlight from your November?

Gimme a Giveaway Winner: Eloise Renouf

It’s Friday, so the boys and I will jam out and dance to Last Friday Night.  Vincent is seriously obsessed with Katy Perry.  Strange four-year old, that one.  The winner of one Eloise Renouf print, number 98, Audra can dance to celebrate her victory.

We asked your favorite thing about winter.  I hate the cold and the snow, but I loooove looking at Christmas lights.  And decorations.  Anything sparkly, twinkly, or shiny, really.

Now, it’s back to filling drawer fronts.  What are you up to this weekend?  Decorating for Christmas?  Wrapping gifts?  More shopping?  Don’t forget to check out our shop for gifts.  We’ve just released a Love Heart print that is a perfect gift.

For a more customized gift, might I suggest a custom cut out?

Good Mood (Board): Living Room

We’re participating in Cassity’s Good Mood (Board) series, this time working in the living room.

Yesterday, Cassity, Beth, and Ashley shared their mood boards.   Today, I have the privilege to post along with Allison from House of Hepworths and Cristin from Simplified Bee.

Before we share our mood board, take a look at our inspiration photo.

I’ve had this bookshelf saved for several months now, and I still love it.  The styling is fantastic, and that sunny yellow back is divine.  To get a similar preppy and happy look in your home, stick with bold yellows, neutral gray, oil rubbed bronze metals, white ceramics, and nature inspired elements.  Here’s our interpretation of it:

Paint the walls First Snowfall by Benjamin Moore (1618) or Silver Crest (1583) for a soft blue.  Or neutral walls painted with Heaven (2118) or Gray Owl (2137) will make the yellow pop even more.  Delightful Yellow (335) or Sunburst (2023-40) are perfect yellow accents.

For the major pieces, I like to stick with neutrals.  This tailored sofa from World Market has clean lines, which should translate well over the years.  A bluish-gray patterned rug adds a pattern with out being distracting and taking attention away from yellow accents.  Keep a few light weight chairs, like these wishbone chairs, for additional seating to pull around the room.

Storage is a necessity in any living space.  Ikea’s Expidet storage system is cheap, good-looking, and easily customized.  Back the unit with thin plywood or MDF painted a sunny yellow for a splash of color you can change out with a coat of paint.

Give this side table a coat of oil rubbed bronze spray paint for a darker finish.  An industrial metal and wood coffee table on casters not only provides warmth, but you’ll love being able to move it around easily for large gatherings or game nights.

Give the room your personal touch with accessories.  Carry the bold yellow throughout the room in splashes, like these chic lamps.  Etsy is a wonderful place to shop for hand-made home accessories.  A bird pillow cover from Joom is cute and cozy.  Balance the cute with a gray designer pillow from Milk and Cookies, another Etsy favorite of mine.  Or try our your sewing skills by making this felt circle pillow.  While I love hand-made accessories, CB2’s rise pillow is great, too.

Last but not least, deck your walls with nature inspired art.  Our bird, tree, and feather gallery wall has all the colors of the inspiration: black, white, yellow, and blue.  Hang a deer head above the fireplace or in a corner for a dose of fun.

Gimme a Giveaway Winner: 2142 Stuart

Does anyone else find it hard to believe that we’re less than a week away from Thanksgiving?  Yes, this is the last Friday in November, people!  Insanity!  Let’s not dwell on how quickly this year has passed.  We’ve got a winner to announce.

Congratulations to commenter number 36, Emily!  Her favorite number is 5.  My favorite is 23, because it is the middle between my favorite guys’ birthdays.  Vincent on the 21, Ben on the 24, and Everett on the 25.  And, if you add the individual numbers of our ages, you get 23.  Ben is 29 (2+9), I’m 25 (2+5) Vincent is 4 and Everett is 1 for a total of 23.  It’s fate.

What are you guys and gals doing this weekend?  Getting things ready for turkey day?  Planning your attack route for Black Friday?  We’ll be back on Monday with a few Thanksgiving ideas.  Until then, have a great weekend!
