& Here’s Some Art

Thank you so, so much for all the support and sweet comments about the curtains and bathroom progress!  You are all so wonderful.

Not sure if you have this same problem, but finding bathroom art is tricky.  Anything with eyes seems creepy.  And I wanted something large for our back wall.  As usual, I made something.

A giant, simple ampersand on a white canvas.

I’m having a hard time deciding if I like how simple it is.  Or if it’s just boring…  Thoughts?  A colorful, abstract painting would be really awesome.

However, I know I love the Astrological sign art above the commode.  Originally, I made these to live in our bedroom, but they looked puny.  After hanging the Carried Away art, the stars stayed in the closet.

When I pulled the set out again, I thought I’d change the frames/mats or both.  I think I’ll hold off, because I like the black and white.  Especially with the patterned towels.

Above the tub, I took a less traditional approach with vintage arrows.  Handy Sammy had them and they’re an interesting addition.

To hang the arrows, Ben drilled two tiny holes in the shaft of each.  I marked the center of the space, then set two 2 by 4 boards on the ledge to give my height and keep them lined up.

I started nailing in the bottom of each, then leveled each arrow before nailing in the top, then tapping the bottom nail in the rest of the way.

The fletching has seen better days, but I like the character each arrow has.

There’s the bathroom art.  Until I change something.  What art do you have in your bathroom?  Wishing everyone a happy weekend, too!

  1. I love the color of the ampersand. I am still looking for the perfect artwork to hang in our bathroom. Currently above our tub we have the vinyl letters you can stick on your wall and it says.. “Soak your cares away” I am looking to put something above that. I was thinking of some outdoorsy pictures on canvas… but still haven’t decided. I like the idea of the arrows.

  2. I totally love the arrows! I find it challenging to decide on bathroom art just because of all the moisture etc… but you’ve nailed it! The astrology prints are also very cool!

  3. Not a fan of the ampersand at all. It takes too much attentions away from the nicer features of the room, and it isn’t all that exciting. I do like the rest of the room.

  4. Like the color of the ampersand, but not the symbol….a bit college-ish…how about some kibd of abstract design in the same color?

    1. Hey lkl!

I do agree with your opinion about the symbol. It has no meaning to us, but I like the simplicity of it. I’m a huge abstract art fan, just not sure what direction to go that it wouldn’t be overwhelming.

      Thanks!

  5. I love. LOVe the giant ampersand-I think abstract art on that wall would leave your eyes searching for something simple to land on. With that simple piece, it let’s the rug and towels be seen. I keep forgetting you’ll have the vanity there and I wondered why you had random towels and sconces 😉 I also like the astrology art as is. That’s my two cents!

    1. Hey Sara!

That’s kind of my fear with an abstract painting. It can get crazy and overwhelming in a hurry. Yes, the random sconces and towels look strange. Hoping we get the vanity finished and in soon!!!!! 😀

      Thanks!

  6. I love the art and how it contrasts from the dark wall! I was also curious with what you used as the hand towel holder? I’ve been searching for something small & simple to hand my hand towel (I have limited space).

    1. Hi Jenn!!

Thanks so much!! The hand towel holder is a drawer pull from Hobby Lobby. All of their pulls have bolts attached, so I found a tight fitting anchor to hold it in the wall. 🙂 I’m also a fan of rope cleats from hardware stores. Both are super easy and convenient if you have loops. I used twill tape to make loops on these towels.

      Thanks!

  7. I feel so embarrassed and juvenile saying this but the ampersand above the toilet makes me think it’s saying “poop and pee” – I feel absolutely ridiculous leaving this comment – but I just saw the finished room and it’s so beautiful and I’m sure it will get pinned or submitted for contests all over the interwebs so I just wanted to pass along the feedback that something using the same scale and colors would be great there – but just maybe not this symbol specifically. Sorry for such an absurd comment. Congrats again on the space – it looks awesome. 🙂

    1. Hi Jackie!

Ha, I never thought about it that way. To me the ampersand means you & me, because it’s our master bathroom. I thought about adding small text of you and me. Maybe I’ll have to do that now. 🙂 Thank you so much for pointing that out!

      Thanks!
      Amanda

  8. I love the idea of it being “you and me”!! (Sorry again – I’m probably the only weirdo out there that thought of something else). I love this space you’ve created. It’s really beautiful.
